Farrier Insurance

According to "the Farrier guide", almost 80% of today's Farriers are part-time. So, with less money coming in, paying for insurance can be a big expense for part time or even full time Farriers.

When horse owners were asked if their farrier was insured, according to a survey of 6,000 people, "The overwhelming response to this was yes, 78%. The reason being, 'He's in business, he better be if he injures my horse, he needs to be covered.'"

So, whether you are part-time or full-time it’s important to know that clients generally expect their farrier to be insured. If you’re not insured it could lead to greater headaches than if clients knew that their farrier was uninsured.

What does Farrier Insurance cover?

Work shop – if your workshop is at home, your personal home insurance policy will not generally cover the shop. Any building on your property that is used for commercial purposes needs commercial coverage.
Commercial Liability – accidents happen, if you cause damage to a barn or to stables you can be held legally liable, even if the building owner has insurance, if you cause the damage the owner’s insurance company is going to go after you for the repairs. Imagine burning down a barn because of a simple mistake and losing everything you have worked for?
Tools and Equipment – the tools in your truck are not covered by your vehicle’s insurance so many farriers are driving around with tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of un insured equipment in their vehicles. Theft, collision, or fire could put you out of business at any time if you are not properly insured.
Stablemen’s Liability – injuring or maiming a horse because of a mistake would be something no one would want to have happen. If it did, how would you be able to reimburse the horse’s owner? Sorry just doesn’t cut it. The proper insurance coverage would at least be in place to make things right.
