Don’t Ignore That Chip - What You Need to Know About Windshield Damage
“It’s just a chip…”

Think again.

We hear it all the time, “It’s just a chip, it’ll be fine.” But here’s the truth: even a tiny chip in your windshield can become a big problem.

With Windsor–Essex’s shifting weather and bumpy roads, that small blemish can quickly turn into a long, spreading crack. One day it’s a speck, and the next thing you know, it’s obstructing your view and costing you hundreds to replace.

Why act fast?

A small chip can often be repaired easily and affordably. But once it becomes a crack, things get trickier. Some small cracks can still be fixed by drilling and injecting resin, but larger ones will likely require a full windshield replacement.

Replacing a windshield with embedded tech means more time, higher parts and labour costs, and calibration of safety systems like adaptive cruise control or lane departure warnings.

Will insurance cover it?

If you have comprehensive car insurance, most chips or cracks that aren’t collision-related are covered, sometimes even without paying your deductible. That’s a win!

Just be aware:
  • Chip or small crack repair – usually no impact on your premiums
  • Full windshield replacement – may affect your premiums and deductible
