Emergency Preparedness Week
With the widespread flooding across Canada this spring combined with rising lake and river levels and high winds in Windsor and Essex County, Emergency Preparedness Week presents us all with a good opportunity to be prepared for emergencies of all types.

From floods, fires, ice storms, tornadoes, heat waves, frigid temperatures, hurricanes, power outages and earthquakes as well as domestic threats and nuclear accidents; it’s not about preparing “if” there is an emergency, rather “when” there is an emergency!

The 2019 Emergency Preparedness Week theme is, “Are you ready?”

By considering any type of emergency scenario and framing it in front of the question “Are You Ready?” people can focus attention on what they need to do to deal with those specific scenarios, for example:
  • There is a risk of flooding. “Are You Ready?”
  • Forest fires are causing evacuations. “Are You Ready?”
  • If the power went out for an extended period of time. “Are You Ready?”
  • There is a severe thunderstorm warning. “Are You Ready?”
  • A tornado warning has been issued. “Are You Ready?”

What you can do:

The more prepared you are in the event of an emergency, the better prepared you will be to deal with its potentially adverse affects. Start today. For more in-depth information, please visit this website.
